‘The Royals’ trailer: E! gives first look at Elizabeth Hurley series

You have to give E! some credit here for knowing how to make things work when it comes to synergy. They know that they are going to get huge ratings for their red-carpet specials, and with that in mind, they decided to use the countdown to the Golden Globes as a way to promote their upcoming scripted effort “The Royals.”

In some ways, it feels like this title in particular speaks for itself. It is all about the first celebrity family that is out there, and some of the exploits that come as a result of that. Basically, this seems like the sort of series that really would tick off the Royal Family, given that you are talking about some gossip-worthy subjects, and trying to speculate on what their life really is like.

One thing that the network has definitely done right here is cast one of the right people in the lead roles in Elizabeth Hurley. After all, don’t you know who she is already? It sounds ridiculous, but every little bit helps to raise awareness.

One other interesting thing that we will be watching out for is just the issue of whether or not this is a show that will be taken seriously. After all, this is a network that has become synonymous for red-carpet coverage, the Kardashians, and many a cheesy reality show. This is a similar struggle in many ways to Bravo and “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”; many of these networks, known for their campier programming, are suddenly making a very real and genuine effort to get serious and show off a rather different side of themselves.
