‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4 ‘not necessarily’ the end, notes CW boss
Today ended up being quite a great day for The CW, as the majority of the network’s shows ended up being renewed for additional seasons. With that being said, there was one long-running show left out of the equation for now, and that is “Hart of Dixie.”
At the moment, our assessment here is that the dramedy doesn’t have a whole lot of life left in it. By renewing so many other shows, there’s not a whole lot of room to even give Rachel Bilson and company more TV real estate. Where would they put them? The network has to fit some new shows in there somewhere. When you add to that talk from the cast that the season finale was a series finale back when it filmed, then there is a genuine reason for pessimism.
Now that we have said all of this, the head of the CW is insisting still that the show is not necessarily over. While at the network’s TCA event this week, Mark Pedowitz confirmed that this is “not necessarily” the final season (a phrase he has uttered many times over the past six months), saying that they need to see the ratings on Friday night before ultimately coming to a decision.
The only hope that we see the show having is that if it can pull a steady number, or a slight improvement over last season, the network could see enough to note that it is worthy of another short season. Sometimes, it’s better to have a show with lower ratings that is reliable than a new one that is a complete toss-up. Expectations are not through the roof of Fridays.
Regardless of if this is the final season or not, there are many great things ahead.
