While Patrick Jane may be a pain in the you-know-what the majority of the time when it comes to how he deals with Abbott, there is something that fans of “The Mentalist” know about this guy by now: If you do your part to protect him, then he will in turn protect you back. Abbott has shown loyalty, and due to that, Jane will be set to lend a helping hand in return.
The show has done a nice job in this final season of establishing a long-term storyline revolving around this supporting character, and how his demons from a certain past in Rio Bravo have come back to haunt both him and also his wife. The eighth episode of this season, entitled “Copper Bullet,” is going to put these issues in the forefront. Not only that, but it may be up to Simon Baker’s character to ensure that nothing happens to Abbott to cause him to lose his job. CBS released the official synopsis recently, and you can take a look at that below:
“When Abbott’s old boss, Agent Peterson, threatens Abbott’s career –and possibly his freedom – Jane devises a risky plan to protect his friend’s future.”
We do hope that Abbott’s troubles are over by the end of the season, mostly because we want the likely series finale to revolve around Jane and Lisbon more than any other character. Still, we like that the story is there. Rockmond Dunbar deserves good material, and more than that, we like opportunities where we can see how good of a friend Jane really is.
