Golden Globes spotlight: ‘Shameless,’ ‘Louie,’ ‘House of Lies,’ ‘Transparent’ stars battle

The Golden Globes really did a great job with their nominations this year for Acting in a  Comedy Series. It’s actually like, unlike the Emmys and the SAG Awards, they actually paid attention to modern TV! You can debate as to whether or not “Shameless” is really a comedy, but at least it is a great show and William H. Macy is a good actor.

What’s also fun about this particular category is that there are situations in which we can see almost every single nominee here winning. While we have a perosnal favorite, that does not even remotely mean that this person is going to end up winning. This may come down just to familiar names and what voters have seen.

The nominees – William H. Macy (“Shameless,” Showtime), Louis CK (“Louie,” FX), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Ricky Gervais (“Derek,” Netflix), Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent,” Amazon).

Who should win – Tambor. We feel like we haven’t given “Transparent” its due on CarterMatt for being one of the most enjoyable shows we’ve seen in quite some time. Maybe it’s because we came to it really late. This is a beautiful show if you haven’t seen it; the problem is just that we don’t feel like enough people are really aware of Amazon’s streaming platform yet.

Who will win – This is very close. Tambor will have his fans, but we worry about voter awareness. We feel like it’d be hilarious to see former host Gervais win a Golden Globe following his three stints on NBC, and we feel like some voters will feel the same way. We’re going to say that Louis CK wins still, but it will be close. Macy is probably the one with the hardest path to the top, but he could still pull it off.
