Ratings: ‘Revenge’ season 4 hits series low after Josh Bowman shocker; ‘Galavant’ starts solid
Remember all of those threats that “Revenge” fans made to stop watching after what happened to Daniel Grayson? Well, unlike most other TV-related threats, it feels almost like some of them decided to follow through with it.
The show’s first episode of the year “Epitaph” aired on ABC last night, and it drew a series-low rating of 0.9 in the 18-49 demographic. The other terrible news for many diehard “Revenge” fans is that they cannot really blame the low number on anything in particular, given that there was not a whole lot of competition elsewhere like NFL football, and this is a time of the year when it’s too cold for many to go outside at night. While we haven’t quite felt that this season is the best, we don’t want to see “Revenge” canceled just yet; a shortened final season in the fall seems like a fitting end.
As for other ABC news, executives have to feel okay with the start of “Galavant.” While averaging a 2.0 rating over the first two episodes is not a home run, it’s hardly a bomb for an original new comedy these days. If that number carries over, we could see a season 2 coming.
In terms of another big premiere, the return of “The Celebrity Apprentice” did far better than we expected with a 2.3 rating. That figure will probably decline tonight given that it is moving to a more competitive time, but this proved that there is still some life left in the tank for this show.
Also worth noting last night on the CBS front is that “Madam Secretary” drew a 1.4 rating, which is down pretty big from its last episode, but expected without the NFL lead-in. We’re still impressed enough to be hopeful for its future. Of course, Fox won the night with huge ratings gains for most of its shows, with football being the reason why. The Dallas Cowboys always pack a punch.
