ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: Tony Goldwyn on Fitz, saving Olivia

Fitz -Is President Grant willing to put Americans at risk for the sake of his sometimes-lover? This is the question that we face coming into the second part of “Scandal” season4, which premieres on Thursday, January 29. The last we saw Olivia Pope, she was being taken away to a dangerous position, and it came right after a massive attempt to take down Rowan blew up completely in her face.

Olivia prides herself much of the time on being the famed “fixer,” but this is undoubtedly a situation where she is going to need the help over one of her clients. Fitz likes to be the knight in shining armor for her, and given how hard he has worked to keep this relationship alive in the past, we imagine that in his heart of hearts, he probably would risk war if it meant a lifetime with her. However, as Tony Goldwyn notes to TV Guide, there are a number of components that will weight into this important choice:

“It depends on how much danger Olivia is in … Do you sacrifice the person you love for the benefit of the greater good?”

How long the show makes us wait for this decision may also be a critical part of this story. Given the breakneck speed at which this show travels, we would not be altogether shocked if we have our answer comes within the first episode or two back. During that time, get ready for some great acting, most likely, from Kerry Washington. Kidnapping scenes typically lead to powerful performances.
