‘Gotham’ spoilers: ‘Hell on Wheels’ star stopping by in episode 12

Gotham -We love the DC universe, and we also love AMC’s “Hell on Wheels.” Therefore, we are rather thrilled anytime that the two can collide … which, as you would guess, pretty much never happens.

Luckily, it will be happening on the January 19 episode of “Gotham” entitled “What the Little Bird Told Him.” Christopher Heyerdahl, who “Hell on Wheels” fans know as The Swede (go watch the first two episodes of season 4 for a master class performance), will be playing a man important to the future of James Gordon. For more details, take a look at Fox’s official synopsis:

“In an attempt to get his job back, Gordon seeks to capture Jack Gruber (guest star Christopher Heyerdahl), a deranged electrical genius who escapes Arkham Asylum. Meanwhile, Falcone struggles to hold onto his empire after Fish Mooney makes her next move.”

This sounds like a fun role for Heyerdahl, and he is playing the sort of character we love to see on “Gotham”: An interesting, memorable person who is not entirely associated with Batman himself. This allows “Gotham” to cultivate more of own identity, and also give us characters whose future remains in doubt. One of the struggles with the show is establishing dramatic tension for someone like an Oswald Cobblepot or Edward Nygma, who are key players in Bruce Wayne’s adulthood. Who knows where Gruber ends up?

“Gotham” returns to Fox with new episodes on Monday night, and we’ve recently posted a variety of video sneak previews for it. Expect more from Gordon at Arkham, and also prepare yourself to see Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins. She’ll have an important role in things to come. Also, seeing Bullock without his moral compass around for a time should be fun.
