‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 6 debate: Should Kensi, Deeks take another step?
We all know at this point that “NCIS” really loves its “will they or won’t they” romances. With that being said, we started to feel a little last season like “NCIS: Los Angeles” in particular needed to hurry Kensi and Deeks along. The exit of Ziva on the flaghship show was in some ways a cautionary tale that if you wait for too long, you could end up losing out on a romance that makes your viewers very happy. For the most part, Tony and Ziva were a pair most “NCIS” fans could get behind.
Luckily, we did see the “Los Angeles” show make a big move for these two in the winter finale, allowing Deeks to finally admit to his feelings, and for them to enter the new year as an actual couple.
While this was a great TV moment, it does not take away from our next question: Should they take another step before the season is over? Could we have a “Densi” wedding or engagement soon? We thought it’d be best to lay out the case both for and against Eric Christian Olsen’s character proposing, and for their relationship to stay the same for a while.
The case for another step – We’re six seasons in, and at this point, you don’t know how long the show is going to last! Plus, while the engagement may seem fast in proportion to the time it spent them to get together, you do have to remember that these two characters have known each other for years, and it would be a great way to complete surprise viewers expecting them to go slowly in their dating life.
The case for taking things slow – Due to some other CBS shows losing a bit of their ratings steam, we don’t think that “NCIS: Los Angeles” is in severe danger of cancellation this year. With that in mind, why rush things? If you want to make your endgame these two getting engaged or married, you have plenty of time to build towards that? Also, taking things slow has long been the pattern for this show, and there are plenty of other characters who need stories told in the interim.

While I really like the chemistry between Kenzie and Deeks hence the word “Denzie”, I’m concerned if they go ahead with a full blown romance it will skew the show in a direction of more a romantic comedy than a crime drama. Both characters have fun together and it is great to watch because it lightens the heavy drama a bit but the writers will have to be careful to maintain the balance. Even though the show seems like it will go on for quite a bit yet, we don’t know what the actors want for their own personal futures. I just hope that it doesn’t go down the same road as “TIVA” in the original NCIS. There doesn’t seem to be a “Rule #12” on NCIS LA versus Gibb’s rules so that may give a bit more license for the storylines. Time will tell. “Chicago Fire” has succeeded in blending romance with the drama quite well. They show the struggles of maintaining interpersonal/co-worker romances and a demanding often potentially life threatening job. Some of it is really serious and some of it is funny.
