‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Hugh Bonneville looks at show’s long-term future
Are we nearing the end of the road for “Downton Abbey“? This is something that we have admittedly wondered for some time. As a matter of fact, we have even advocated at times ending the show next season. It’s not necessarily a case of us wanting to see the show end (because we do love it); instead, it’s a little more about us not wanting to see it go out with ratings that are a shadow of what the show once was.
So is the cast worrying a whole lot about this? It doesn’t seem like it. Instead, most of the primary cast members are just sticking to the script, and putting their faith in show creator Julian Fellowes to end the show when he sees fit. Just take a look at what star Hugh Bonneville had to say on the subject to Yahoo UK:
“It’s a unique show, in that it feels so big in scale, but it comes down to one person’s imagination; [writer and producer] Julian Fellowes.
“It’s really him, and he’ll know when it’s time to tie-up all the loose ends and put it to bed. Shows like Downton are once in a career, and I know it will come to an end eventually – and I can just retire and do some knitting.”
Bonneville seems to be one of the actors who will for sure be a part of the show for the long haul. Joining him in this seems to be Michelle Dockery, and we feel like many of the servants including Jim Carter will be around as long as the show is.
