‘Extant’ season 2 spoilers: Big changes coming for Halle Berry series?
Well, that may very well be Halle Berry’s face when she first heard of all of the changes that CBS has in store for its viewers when “Extant,” (which was renewed earlier this summer despite some struggles in the ratings).
According to a new report from Deadline, much of the entire cast surrounding Berry will not be back for more. Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill are not expected to be back in any capacity, and at some point during the second season, the show will also lose cast members Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim. Both Pierce Gagnon and Grace Gummer should be back as regulars, so Berry won’t at least be making her next voyage alone.
From what we can understand right now, much of the reason behind all of these shifts does appear to be creative. We are seeing the story go in some new directions, and with that, the cast is turning over.
The reason that this show was brought back is in part due to a rich streaming pact, and also most likely the fact that it airs during the summer. This gives CBS a little more flexibility when it comes to ratings thresholds. They also seem to be trying to build a brand with summer genre programming, and may be more lenient with this show and “Under the Dome” than they would be with some of their crime programming during the season.
When you consider all of these exits, we presume that there will be some new additions to the cast announced in the future. Stay tuned!
