‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ review: Kyle Richards’ party; Lisa Rinna’s past

Is this season of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” our favorite of any so far? As of right now, we may have to say yes.

When this show was first announced, this was more of what we were hoping to see: Very successful women who have their problems, but also have their victories. There have been times when the show has descended into pettiness, and there have also been some cast members who just haven’t brought much to the table. We found Carlton Gebbia entertaining last season, but we’ve been able to move on quickly thanks to everything that was brought in to the equation this time around.

The first thing that we really love here is the additions of Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson. We watch this show to see lavish lives, and it is far more interesting when we know who the women are beforehand. These two ladies in particular had interesting stories tonight, as Yolanda struggled with a snub from Lisa Vanderpump’s Palm Springs Walk of Fame appearance, while Lisa had to deal with a return to her Oregon hometown, seeing some remnants of a life that she once had. This was proof that some people really are relatable, no matter who they are or what they have done over the past several years.

We actually got a little emotional watching Lisa’s story tonight; how often does that happen?

Then, things got awkward. The weak point of this episode was the bizarre juxtaposition of these moments with watching Kyle Richards stage an intervention of sorts to keep some of her friends from fighting. Brandi Glanville and Lisa are two fiercely opinionated people, and we’re not sure that they will be on the same page again anytime soon.

This minor complain aside, we at least like that there seems to be substance to this season, and the story is at least not dwelling or regurgitating the same points from last season again and again like other shows. Grade: B.
