‘Girls’ season 4 spoilers: Lena Dunham, cast speak out in behind-the-scenes video
With the fourth season of “Girls” premiering on Sunday, January 11, this is right about the time when we start to see the promotional campaigns really unfold.
For HBO, they are diving in head-first when it comes to their season 4 campaign. Parts of the new video below were previously released by the network, but this is the first one to really give you a lengthy account of everything that will be coming up for all of these characters. Also, it further shows that while we are not always a fan of everything “Girls” puts on the air, we do think that thematically, their heart is in the right place and they know precisely what they are doing.
At its heart, this is a show about insecurity. It just manifests in different forms. These are all young women who, after college or whatever training they went through, feel like they are ready to actually conquer the world. Unfortunately, the world typically conquers them instead, and they are left struggling. For Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Marnie (Allison Williams), they cling to relationships for stability. Unfortunately, Hannah this season is on the verge of heartbreak, and Marnie is in the middle of an affair.
Eventually, we do want to see these characters move forward, and have some sort of success. It just has to be earned, and we don’t have to like them every second of the journey. We did find Hannah a little too frustrating at times during season 3, whereas the season 2 Hannah was flawed, but still sympathetic and interesting.
