Best of 2014 results: Did ‘Parks and Recreation’ or ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ star win Comedy Actor honors?
We’ve talked about some close results throughout the course of the CarterMatt Awards this year, but definitively, we can say with the results locked in, that the Comedy Actor trophy was the most competitive of all.
We’re not joking here when we say that there was a difference of one vote between the winner and the runner-up. It was actually that close. Both had about 33% of the vote each, and while they are each worthy, there is only one first place! For the runner-up, there is always next year.
For Amy Poehler, though, this was clearly her time to shine. “Parks and Recreation” is not going to have too many more opportunities to be in the spotlight beyond the upcoming final season, while runner-up Andre Braugher of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” could have many more seasons to come here. It’s ironic in a way that these are the two finalists, given that they are both produced by Mike Schur, and they each feature at least one “Saturday Night Live” alumni. (Braugher works alongside Andy Samberg.)
Amy’s recognition here could not be any more appropriate, especially when you consider everything that she consistently brings to the table with this show. Not only is she a hilarious presence, but her real talent comes mostly in how no one ever has a bad thing to say about her. She’s one of those performers who you want to be when you join UCB or Second City, and to work with her is probably a thrill for some of these people.
