‘American Idol XIV’ video: Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. Keith Urban hype up season

The premiere of “American Idol XIV” is not a substantial amount of time away now, which means one thing for Fox: It’s time to promote the show more than ever!

If you want to get a better sense of just what the network is doing, the promo below is your latest tease! In this, the likes of Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and the rest of the gang go through here some of what they are hoping to see on the new season, and how excited they are for America to really get a glimpse of the talent level this time.

Of course, there is a certain part of this that may be worthy of an eye-roll or two, at least when you consider here that the judges are paid to make the season sound good. We do feel like the new producers have a better grasp on things now after last year, and maybe that will help to improve things.

One thing that is definitely surprising us right now about the new season is simply the premiere date. Remember when this show started a little earlier in the month? We’re fine with an early January start, given that the show is having fewer results shows this year. We still want it to feel like a longer competition than “The Voice,” and this gives it an opportunity to do just that. On “The Voice,” we barely even feel like we get a chance to get to know the performers.
