‘The Mentalist’ series finale: Simon Baker talks about the future (fittingly) on ‘The Talk’

One of the nice things about “The Talk” is that you basically get a good shot to see many CBS stars talk about their programs, and today, this is true for Simon Baker and “The Mentalist.”

Earlier this week, the actor behind Patrick Jane made an appearance on the talk show, and among one of the many questions he was asked was about his feelings going into the big series finale of the show. Given that the finale has not even aired just yet, it is pretty easy to say that the man is still in an interesting headspace regarding what comes next in his career:

“All I can say is that it’s a crazy thing when you sign on to do a TV show, and you actually have to make the thing for seven years … and you are lucky enough to have that show go on [so] long. And a lot of that is due to the audience, since without [that] you don’t get the opportunity … He’s like a relative you can’t get rid of. I’ll probably be going on cruise ships as an aging old man signing autographs and making money off the character.”

Most of Baker’s comments were said in jest, as he seems to be at peace with the idea of having Jane be the character he is most known for. He does speak with a definitive tone, just in case you had any hope that the show could live on somewhere other than CBS. Just enjoy the rest of this season for what it is, and hopefully that will be entertaining.
