‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Can Kelsey Poe guide Chris Soules in love?
We have a pretty good feeling that you are going to remember Kelsey Poe for at least a little while after this season of “The Bachelor” comes to a close. We’ve already had a chance to learn a few things about her, and she has a story that probably will be heartbreaking to many viewers out there.
It is with this in mind that we wonder if Kelsey could be a candidate for “The Bachelorette” just as much as she is one to win Chris Soules’ heart at the end of the season. More on that a little later; let’s get to the spotlight first.
Age – 28
Hometown – Austin, Texas. There’s nothing too notable about her being from Austin, but we feel like it is one of those cities that almost everyone feels pretty positively about. Great food!
Occupation – Guidance counselor. This is a great job, and it shows that she is great at communicating, and there is a generous quality to it in that she is helping young people who definitely need guidance at certain points in their lives.
Bio highlights – Chris Harrison named Kelsey one of his contestants to watch in his recent Yahoo piece, saying the following about her: “I’m a little biased because she’s from Austin and I love Texas, but Kelsey also has a pretty amazing story. She was married and lost her husband when he passed away suddenly of heart failure. She met him when she was 19 and got married at 23. The loss sent her reeling and blew her life up, but she feels like she is finally ready to try again. She saw Chris on Andi’s show, took a liking to him, and thought, ‘This is fate. I’m going to meet him and he will be my new husband.’ She knows she is a good wife. She loved being married and knows she wants that again. It is an emotional, tough moment when she talks to Chris. It’s a bizarre double-edged sword. You don’t get a ton of time, but it’s important to share the important stuff. Do you blurt it out immediately, and will it be too much too soon? If you wait and drop a bomb late in the process, it can have a negative effect.”
Obviously, that is quite a story, and you know that the show is probably going to really highlight this early and often throughout the season.
Positives – For one, she likes being married! She knows herself probably better than most of the other women, and also what she could give to a husband. She has a good head on her shoulders, and after everything that she has been through, we do not see her struggling too much to deal with the pressures of the show.
Negatives – Here is the tricky thing about Kelsey’s story, and it is precisely as Chris Harrison said. You don’t want to introduce your past too early, and you also don’t want to introduce it too late. Regardless, there is a natural fear for the Bachelor in this situation that they have something big to try and live up to. Not every guy is going to be receptive to that.
Prediction – While Emily Maynard had a similar story of heartbreak and ended up getting a ring at the end of Brad Womack’s season, we feel like this experience for Kelsey could at times be challenging, and we don’t see her and Chris as the perfect match. Still, if she makes it far enough, she does feel like a possible “Bachelorette” contender. She is probably going to be very likable, and we could see her fronting a separate season.
