‘The Mentalist’ season 7 spoilers: First details on Simon Baker-directed episode

Who wants to see Simon Baker back in the director’s chair? It is a role that he is at least somewhat familiar with, and he will be taking it on for “The Silver Briefcase,” the next new episode of “The Mentalist” that is airing a week from Sunday.

So what do we know about this episode other than that Baker is directing? Interestingly, not much. CBS has officially released the synopsis below, but this is not exactly the most revealing one that we’ve seen:

“A chance encounter with a military colonel leads Jane to believe the soldier is hiding something, leading him to dig into closed murder case of the man’s wife.”

The biggest thing that we hope for with this episode, unsurprisingly, is a good case. With most of the other episodes this season, there has been a specific story that is a selling point. For example, the second episode had the “Orange Is the New Black” theme to it, the third brought back Morena Baccarin, and the fourth episode will have a really fun story about Jane becoming sick.

The crazy thing to think about here, though, is that by the time this episode ends, we are going to be almost at the halfway point of the entire season. We have a whole lot to look forward to the rest of the way, but it will start to make us a little nostalgia knowing that we are so close to the very end of it all.
