Stephen Colbert auctioning off portions of ‘Colbert Report’ set for charity

Highlights -While the Stephen Colbert character may be obnoxious, angry, and sometimes quick to have a controversial opinion, it is pretty clear that there are some pretty big distinctions between the character and the Stephen Colbert guy. After all, he is doing one of the most generous things imaginable with a pretty big slice of TV history.

This week, Colbert is auctioning off two very valuable pieces of set memorabilia to the highest bidder over on Omaze: The desk that he sat at for all of the New York-based episodes of “The Colbert Report,” and also the fireplace set, including that painting that sits atop it. Both are tremendous prizes that will go well in almost any household, or at least one that is a massive fan of Colbert’s.

Most importantly, the process of this raffle are going to be split evenly between two very worthy causes in the Yellow Ribbon Fund (who helps military families after a veteran is injured overseas), and also DonorsChoose.org (which helps teachers fund their education programs). As Colbert jokes in the video below, he needs to get these set pieces out by Thursday in order to get his security deposit back.

Colbert’s time end this week on Comedy Central, and from there, maybe he will have a little bit of time to properly relax before plotting his big move over to CBS. He is going to take over “The Late Show” at a time slot that is not entirely clear at the moment, but we suspect that it is going to be probably around the start of the fall season.

We’ll have more on Colbert’s show moving further into the week, but for now, be sure to head over here to see the lineup for this last week! Also, you can sign up to get some further TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Comedy Central.)
