‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’ review: Did Adam Harvey, Katie Weinner defeat Rebecca LaMalfa?
There were two episodes of “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen” this week to effectively kick off the web show’s first week this season, and each one of them had their advantages and disadvantages.
With the first, we had multiple chefs competing! However, it felt like too much was going on for a limited run time online. Rebecca was declared the winner, but we cannot for the life of us remember why. Rebecca was not really edited that heavily on the show, so we didn’t even have much of a memory of her sadly.
After this past episode of “Top Chef” proper eliminated both Katie Weinner (via the Sudden Death Quickfire) and Adam Harvey, they each got a chance to square off in a “dry-and-slimy” themed challenge. They had to make a good dish using food products from both categories.
These episodes are short and sweet, and given that everyone likes each other pretty well, there wasn’t much drama in seeing Adam and Katie defeat Rebecca. There were still two big takeaways from this first episode.
1. There will be two advancing contestants every week. Personally, we dislike the move. Story-wise, it is more interesting to have a one-on-one showdown, especially if we run into a pair of rivals.
2. Adam seems to have the drive to make a pretty deep run into this competition. We definitely know that the guy is super-talented, and we think that he is one of those people who probably could have used the humbling experience of being eliminated. That will motivate him, and we would not be shocked if he manages to make it all the way back into the competition.
