‘The Colbert Report’ features Stephen Colbert, President Obama interview (video)
Last night, “The Colbert Report” aired an episode that was certainly far from the norm, and may also be one of the most memorable ones from Stephen Colbert’s entire run on the show: He held a lengthy interview and discussion with President Barack Obama from George Washington University, and it included both funny moments and serious conversation.
Let’s start with what is the negative that comes out of any interview with a President or someone running for President: They have been so scrutinized by the media, speaking to this is basically like knowing how to follow along the dance that they do with many of their words. They have to be so careful, regardless of if you are talking about a Republican or a Democrat, that they often give the same answers to many questions. This happened at various times during this interview.
If nothing else, there were at least a few great moments during this interview, including Obama’s thoughts on Colbert’s opinions, how he is not treated like a President at home, and how difficult it is to focus on the accomplishment of being in this office while you are actually in the office.
Stephen’s final edition of his Comedy Central series airs a week from Thursday, and we expect many more guests and surprise moments from now until then. Both he and much of his staff will be migrating over to CBS, where he will host “The Late Show” following some unknown point in 2015. David Letterman has yet to settle on an official finale date.
