‘Community’ season 6 spoilers: Is Chevy Chase making another cameo?
When “Community” heads over to Yahoo Screen for its coming season, is it possible that Chevy Chase will be turning up? According to the man himself, that seems to be the case.
Chevy did an AMA on Reddit this week, which has to be one of the few times in recent memory he has been this interactive with the public since leaving the show after four seasons on the air. When asked if he would be making an appearance on the show again, he answered simply with the following:
“I will be in a small cameo at the beginning of Community and if they ask me to come back and do one or two appearances, it’s a possibility.”
Is it possible that he misspoke, and was talking about the start of season 5? Maybe, but it’s still something to look out for. The feud-of-sorts between Chase and creator Dan Harmon seemed to be buried back before the actor returned to the show last season; the real challenge for that appearance was that it had to be done on a separate set, away from most of the cast and crew.
Chase also commented in this AMA about what the production schedule for the show was like, which is fairly interesting since it brings up something that we never before really thought about:
“It was very taxing, because we didn’t get to move around a lot, and we would work 15, 16 hours a day sometimes, and right into early Sunday morning. So it was not easy work. I can tell ya. It’s tough to cover 8 people around a table without moving the camera, moving the camera, moving the lights, it takes FOREVER, and you have to do it over, and over, and make it look fresh, so if people realized that – it can be very taxing and very tough work.”
The long hours were something that we were aware of, but the spending that much time sitting in one place? It makes sense given the study group setting, but it’s easy to not think about how claustrophobic that could be after a while.
If Chevy does return, we hope that at one point Yvette Nicole Brown and new Grammy nominee Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino will, as well. Even if it’s just for one episode, all of these actors are essential to why we originally loved the show in the first place.
Update: A rep for Sony TV says, per TVLine, that Chase is “not confirmed” to be appearing at this time. We don’t really see this as a firm denial, though, so stay tuned.
