DVR ratings: ‘Elementary’ season 3, ‘Gracepoint,’ ‘Reign’ season 2 post big gains
Do DVR ratings matter when it comes to whether or not a show is picked up for another season? Definitely, but only to a certain extent. Live numbers are always going to take precedence first and foremost; after all, recordings are only going to be a tiny factor if you are looking at a show that is going to be canceled in the first place.
We’ve got a few notable highlights for you below from the latest DVR figures, which are from November 17-23. (It takes a while to compile them.) These numbers also come courtesy of the good folks over at TVbythenumbers.
1. “Elementary” season 3 improved from a 1.0 to a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with these factored in, and this, coupled with syndication hopes for a fourth season, may be enough to save this show.
2. “Reign” improved by a higher percentage than any other show, but it was only from a 0.3 (a series low) up to a 0.7. While things are not looking good for the period piece right now, remember that this is a CBS Studios show. This distinction is what kept “Beauty and the Beast” around, since The CW wants to have a good sampling of CBS and Warner Bros. shows on the air.
3. “Gracepoint” improved from a 0.7 to a 1.3 rating, but in all honesty, it would take this show getting a 200% gain or something to change its plans. It’s easy to end the show and call it a “limited series.”
4. The last show we’ll highlight here is “Agents of SHIELD,” which improved from a 1.6 to a 2.9. While this is not a cheap show to make, we feel like this, coupled with Disney’s desire to have Marvel programming on the air, will save it.
