Ratings: ‘The Mentalist’ season 7 down big; ‘Revenge,’ ‘Resurrection’ winter finales tick up
The ratings are in for Monday night’s TV lineup, and while there is a good bit of information skewed due to NFL football, we do at least know enough now to make a few general statements on the current state of TV.
First and foremost, “The Mentalist” is not going to have that great momentum that it had following its premiere anymore. Even with the episode being delayed in some markets, it is probably not going to rise much from its 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is a big drop from the first episode, and if this is the norm, we can probably get rid of that longshot hope that the show could somehow pull off a miracle renewal on CBS. It’s going to take a lot for it to even get another look elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the news was not entirely better for “Revenge” (1.2) or “Resurrection” (1.0). While both improved on their numbers from a week ago, we don’t see anything in here that gives us more hope for them coming back next season. We do feel like the former may have a slight chance of a shortened final season, but that’s about it. We actually hope that it does get this, given that it would ensure that it goes out with a bang rather than a whimper.
The tough thing about some of these shows is that even if they can still claim that football is an excuse for the lower numbers, they cannot blame “The Walking Dead” or “Talking Dead” anymore as competition. Those shows are gone, and will be until February. By that time, “The Mentalist” will have moved to its new night.

CBS knew this would happen when they let The Mentalist air on Thursday in Canada. So many people have already seen it on streaming sites and then they don’t watch on Sunday when the Nielsen ratings take effect …. Not fair!

I think the biggest problem here… is I only see promos for Revenge on Social Media… not on TV… until the show just prior to it airs. I see a lot of ABC TV. If you don’t promote your product… you won’t get viewers. The network can’t rely on social media alone… When they really played up the Revenge Reunion… they had the best numbers this season. That says something. My 2 cents.
