‘Sons of Anarchy’ series finale: Looking back at great music (and how it’s made)
There are few other shows that use music in the same way that “Sons of Anarchy” does. They create some of their own interpretations of popular songs, utilize it heavily and montages, and even bring in popular musicians and singers sometimes to perform particular songs.
If you haven’t had any sort of introduction to this process before now, we have a way now for you to check it out. In the video below, you can see Bob Thiele, really the mastermind and architect behind getting all of the songs together, explain how this show has really revolutionized what a music supervisor does. He also talks about what the process is like getting together arrangements, and how a band in the Forest Rangers has ultimately spawned out of working on this show for so many years.
The one thing that we are pretty sure about at the moment is that this would not be anywhere near the same sort of great show without this music. Everyone from the actors to the crew to creator Kurt Sutter cares deeply about making sure the songs are perfect and are incorporated right into the story, and this is probably going to be true yet again for Tuesday night’s series finale.
With that being said, things have been a little quieter when it comes to the music for the finale than with past episodes. Even going into “Red Rose,” we knew that Ed Sheeran had a significant musical contribution to it beforehand.
