‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Peter Capaldi all for female Time Lord
Really ever since before Matt Smith was the Doctor, there were constant stories from various media outlets and “Doctor Who” fan sites about how there should be a female Doctor added to the mix. The campaigns have been extensive, and we do feel like this is a move that could be made at some point.
However, it has not happened yet, and we do not even know whether or not there were seriously any discussions with female actors for the role before Smith or Peter Capaldi were hired to be the eleventh and twelfth incarnations of the character. (This is how we prefer to keep them numerically.)
One person who is clearly on board with the idea of a female Doctor specifically? Capaldi. Speaking per SFX, the actor makes it clear that he would even like to see a woman following him up if at all possible:
“There easily could be a female Doctor … I think the next time might be a female Doctor. I don’t see why not. I think it’s good to do that.”
We feel like casting Michelle Gomez as the Master is probably one of the first real stepping stones towards this happening, and we feel the same way about it now that we did over a year ago before Capaldi was even cast in the role: if the actor is right, we really don’t care if it is a man or woman. We just don’t want to see the character cast to fit into any specific demographic based on that alone. We want them to be the very best.
