‘Two and a Half Men’ season 12, episode 6 review: Alan tries to be the ‘cool dad’

It begins -We’re now two episodes in to the Louis era on “Two and a Half Men,” and while we cannot be completely positive about this story or the character just yet, we will at least give the writers a little bit of credit for trying.

This does in many ways feel like a different show with Louis around, and one that shows that there are some reasons for Alan and Walden to redeem themselves as characters and as parents. Still, we cannot quite shake that this entire introduction of the kid is an effort for the series to try and reclaim its old glory days when you had both Charlie and Jake as a part of the main cast.

Tonight, Alan got a taste of the good life, as for the first time, he had a kid in Louis who actually thought that he was a cool dad for once. He helped him to discover a new part of himself, and one that gave him the approval that he never had.

Still, we are starting to wish that the show went more in the direction of last year or a year ago, where we weren’t just seeing Alan and Walden go through the same thing that Alan and Charlie did so many years ago. The main positive of this story is that it gives us more Maggie Lawson, it allows Alan to be childish, and it does give us more reminders that Jake is a part of this universe still … even if we never see him. Grade: C+.
