‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 9 review: Damon’s quest for Bonnie; Tyler’s ‘deal’ with Kai
We are not going to lie: We’ve felt fairly disillusioned with “The Vampire Diaries” this season. Heck, we’ve really felt that way ever since Klaus and company left. The show just has not had any real momentum, and instead, has felt from time to time like it is darting all over the pace story-wise.
The question that the characters are wondering at the moment is very simple: Can Bonnie return? What lengths will these vampires and humans go through to make that happen? For Damon, this meant infuriating Alaric by using him and compelling him. At least the good news here is that it feels like we’re closer than ever to seeing Bonnie back in the present. Damon’s actually trying to be a good friend to her! Who would’ve thought we would see this on the show a year ago?
Meanwhile, Matt and Jeremy have taken it upon themselves to try and use the latter’s hunting skills to finally destroy Enzo once and for all, and for a few good reasons given how they cannot trust him. As a matter of fact, he only causes more problems.
Then, we have Kai, who is getting closer and closer than ever to getting to Jo, merging himself into her, and basically killing the fabric of her being. Tonight, that eventually led to some scary moments with Liv, and then the villain offering to make a “deal” with Tyler Lockwood. This can’t end well, right?
So basically, we had a number of stories scattered all over a map, and we pine for the day when everything tied together a little better than they did here.
