Ratings: ‘Arrow’ season 3 sets new series high with crossover episode
Someone should go and give the marketing team over at The CW a major high-five. Even though there was nothing about the “Arrow” half of the crossover last night that really benefited fans of “The Flash” in any sort of substantial way, it somehow still managed to convince most of its viewers to tune in to the episode.
Last night’s “Arrow” drew a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which marks a new series high for the show in the demo, and is better even than its series premiere a number of years ago. (It was the second-most-watched episode ever.) This is ultimately evidence that this show was the big winner out of the crossover, and it actually made a little more sense for “Arrow” to really shy away from revealing much in the way of details about the storyline.
Will many of these viewers stick around? That is the question that we will have to wait and see about, given that the midseason finale for “Arrow” is going to be airing next week. We do not expect the numbers to stay identically the same, but even if the show keeps 30% of its extra viewership, this crossover has to be considered a huge win.
We can only imagine now how much The CW is going to be begging for another one of these to be coming up now in the near future. We cannot see anything as substantial as this week happening again this season, mostly because it is so much work getting these together, unless the network is willing to cut an episode down on the order of each. With that being said, we wouldn’t be shocked if an actor or two make the jump from one show to the next a few times before the season ends.
