Stephen Colbert explains ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ lightsaber to us

Highlights -While we know that Stephen Colbert is not playing the same exact character when he goes over to host “The Late Show,” we hope that he still finds a place in that show for bits like he had on Comedy Central last night.

Why? The comedian basically spent a good bit of time on “The Colbert Report” analyzing thoroughly the recent trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” in particular the part where the new lightsaber was released. Many purists for the franchise have already stepped forward, claiming that the design of this is impractical and would never actually work in a situation of danger. What was Stephen’s response to that? A breakdown of how he thinks the lightsaber “hilt” (if you want to call it that) may still be connected to the rest of it.

Also, Colbert of course touches on some other funny stuff in the trailer, including the cute robot droid we see at one point, and he even makes a somewhat-controversial joke about the Jawas that brings the Trayvon Martin case to mind.

What makes this video stand out to us, though, is the personal story part of it, specifically where Colbert describes how when he was a kid, he won tickets to see the original “Star Wars” two weeks before it came out in theaters, and he had to spend the next 14 days bragging and boasting about a movie nobody else had seen. Therefore, he proclaims that he in fact is the original “Star Wars” fan.
