‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Kit Harrington on show positives, negatives
Kit Harrington is the cover man for the upcoming January issue of British GQ, and we imagine that there are going to be at least a few divided opinions about some of the things that he has to say within the pages of the publication.
Specifically here, we are referring to some of his thoughts about being a part of a show that is such a global phenomenon like “Game of Thrones,” and how there are some negative things to go along with it. Take, for example, the following quote:
“Game Of Thrones is my life, it’s my day job, I love it. But honestly, if there is a curse of Thrones, it’s a lifetime of having to talk about it.”
Here’s the thing. There will probably be many out there who claim that this is a rather arrogant response, and that he should be grateful for getting to talk about it. However, don’t we want our interview subjects to be honest? If you take away his candor, then you have cookie-cutter answers that are zero fun to discuss.
Also, we imagine that, based on this quote, the reason that Harrington feels there is a “curse” associated with playing Jon Snow is being there is no escaping it in public:
“I’m more recognisable in public than much better-known actors. So many people watch, and I go around looking like my character.”
Eventually, we feel like this will become easier for Harrington with distance, and also once he is able to go more incognito. He has a similar problem here to someone like Peter Dinklage, whereas someone like Emilia Clarke or Natalie Dormer can be far more stealthy in their day to day lives thanks to the wigs that they wear on the show.
You will have a chance to see more of Kit when “Game of Thrones” airs on HBO next spring. You can read some of the latest coverage at the link here, and be sure to sign up to get some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: HBO.)
