‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Could Claire Holt from ‘The Originals’ land title role?

While you may have to wait for a little while longer to learn who is going to be playing the lead role of Kara on “Supergirl,” we have some interesting news today about at least one person who tested for the CBS series: Claire Holt.

Per a new report coming in from The Wrap, Holt tested for the role, and while it’s unclear whether or not she is a favorite to land it, she does make sense for the part in many ways. At 26, she is right within the age range of what producers are looking for when it comes to the role. She is also popular already with a target group of fans, and the only thing we don’t know about right now is what her American accent sounds like. We’re not that worried about it, though, given that perfect it would be in the job description. (She has done roles with the accent before.)

Holt is obviously known best for her role as Rebekah on “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” but because she is not a regular on the latter series anymore, she would be free to pursue other projects. Playing Kara Zor-El would probably mean the end of Rebekah on The CW show for at least a little while, given that we have no idea how she would have any free time in her schedule at all. This is going to be a demanding role.

We would be shocked if there is an official name unveiled for this part before Christmas, but the fact that Holt’s name is being mentioned right now suggests that either she really wants the part, or someone in production wants this information out there.

What do you think about the idea of Holt in the role? Share with a comment.
