ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7, episode 9 review: ‘Last Action Hero’ brings silly fun

Castle -Tonight, “Castle’s” episode “Last Action Hero” was a story that mostly had the potential to be fun. We didn’t care if it was dramatic, or that it could make us feel something. We really just wanted a laugh out of it.

Ultimately, this was one of those great “Castle” episodes that you want to watch in syndication years later, mostly because it had so much of that trademark humor and entertainment that we love from the show. Seeing Castle obsess over something, in this case an action-movie star that he had loved for many years, is always great fun. Seeing it happen in this particular setting was merely icing on the cake, since he had to reconcile his emotions with solving a case.

Nathan Fillion anchored some hilarious scenes tonight regarding his character and Beckett, and we also learned a few more things about what he was in to back when he was a kid.

In the middle of the case, which was eventually solved, we found another story that was simple bus also emotional regarding Beckett. While she clearly loves Castle very much, she also loved her old apartment. It was not that easy saying goodbye to it, and through this episode, we watched her try to handle the process of letting it go. This was never over the top, and we especially loved the way in which it ended with the subtle carving of her initials.

This episode is probably not one that will be remembered as a top five for anything, but, we also give it credit for being almost everything that people hope to see when watching this show. Grade: B+.
