‘Today Show’ headlines: Chris Rock skewers Matt Lauer; key Janay Rice moment
While it has not been often lately where NBC’s “Today Show” has defeated their competition over at “Good Morning America” when it comes to ratings, they did certainly manage to secure some more high-profile stories from Monday morning’s show. Ironically, one of them even tied back into the ratings war between the morning giants.
Chris Rock was a guest on “Today” in order to promote his upcoming movie “Top Five,” and early on during his chat with Matt Lauer, the comic quickly brought up the fact that they had an interview with Ray Rice’s wife Janay, stating “you guys are doing good! You got Ray Rice’s wife on, man … you’ll show ‘Good Morning America’! We got the wife on!” Of course, Lauer did not seem to be particularly impressed by this.
Somehow, he seemed even less impressed when he joked that the next move for “Today” to beat “GMA” would be to have Matt Lauer get sick. This is obviously a reference to Robin Roberts of “GMA” and her battle against a rare form of cancer. As long as you don’t take him too seriously, Rock continued to bring some laughs.
As for the Janay interview, you can see a little bit of that below, in particular how she refuses to watch the second, notable video of her husband punching her during a fight with an elevator. We’re going to present this one mostly without commentary, mostly because we don’t think her being on the show is really going to change any opinions that are out there about her or her husband.
