Ratings: ‘Revenge’ season 4, ‘Resurrection’ hit low; ‘The Mentalist’ premiere okay

Mentalist -Could there be a sudden controversy over whether or not the seventh season of “The Mentalist” really should be the last? That is something we are interested in looking at as we get deeper and deeper into this season.

For its premiere, the CBS procedural improved on many recent figures for “The Good Wife” in the key 18-49 demographic, as it scored a 1.6. Was this probably aided by football earlier in the night? We believe so, and that is what will make this number tricky in the long run. Still, it performed better than “CSI,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Elementary,” and “Blue Bloods,” and on a similar level to “Person of Interest,” “Stalker,” and even “NCIS: Los Angeles.” We don’t think the network will back away from their final-season claims, though, and it is only one week.

At this point, we are mostly surprised that any TV show has something positive to discuss, given that the most recent ratings for “Once Upon a Time” (2.0), “Resurrection” (0.8), and “Revenge” (1.0) were all in the toilet. This is what happens when shows take a week off between episodes! To be fair, “Once Upon a Time” still had a better number than just about any drama for ABC not done by Shonda Rhimes. It’s not going anywhere in the near future, even if it is probably one of their pricier shows to put on every season.

What we would hope for as a “Revenge” viewer would be ABC handing down the world that this is the final season now, that way the show can properly wrap things up. We can’t see it or “Resurrection” staying put with these numbers.
