‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Hugh Bonneville on Christmas Special filming
Are you ready for the “Downton Abbey” Christmas Special? You may be waiting for almost a month still, but it definitely seems like it is going to be worth it and then some.
Hugh Bonneville has been making the promotional rounds as of late, and while he did not hand out too many details in a chat with the Radio Times, he did give you a sense of the aesthetic that you can expect from the show’s recent stint filming up at Alnwick Castle:
“We span several months in the Christmas episode … We’re going grouse shooting in the north so we filmed at Alnwick Castle for a couple of weeks which was just incredible. I mean, Highclere’s pretty incredible but Alnwick makes it look like a portacabin – it’s vast, amazing. So we had the privilege of filming inside their state rooms which was incredible.
“And the story does – I think viewers will be delighted to know – have a Christmas theme towards the end.”
Bonneville also did speak on “The Graham Norton Show” earlier this week, and he said there that this special is probably not going to be one to be extremely depressed over. For us, we certainly classify that as great news.
There is no clear reason to be worried about what is coming up for Robert here, presuming some enormous shockers. The show has already been renewed for a sixth season, and given that he is the head of the estate and in some ways the central character, we really cannot imagine the series without him as a part of it.
