‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ episode 10 review: Did Reed make a huge move?
Going into Wednesday night’s new episode of “Survivor: San Juan del Sur,” the one thing that felt very clear was simple: Jon was in control. His alliance of Baylor, Missy, and Jaclyn was strong, and by halfway through this episode, it was pretty clear that they still had Natalie.
The twist here is that this is not exactly a solid five. Natalie wants to get rid of John next week, and told Baylor such when she found a hidden immunity idol.
Meanwhile, Reed was clearly not with the group, even though he just voted with them. He formed a plan to get Wes, Keith, and Alec together with him to vote out Jon, provided that the other people in the game split the vote between father and son. A smart plan in theory!
The immunity challenge was full of awkward comedy, including Wes talking to Jeff Probst about “Two and a Half Men” and bacon while a few serious people actually battled for the challenge. We’re not going to blame Natalie for going down to get that plate of food, regardless of how ridiculous it was that she got exactly what she wanted in the first place. She wasn’t going to win that challenge; nobody was going to seemingly other than Reed. The moment we realized that, we would have been down, too.
By winning immunity, Reed ensured that he was going to stay for the week, which is good since the plan may not have worked otherwise. However, there were still plenty of dangers, such as Jon not being entirely sure about this.
The entire tribal council was basically an exercise in terrible gameplay, even if it was at the same time great television. Keith decided to proclaim “stick to the plan” in the middle of the council may be the worst decision that we’ve ever seen someone do in this game, since it completely destroyed his chances of making the move!
Ultimately, Jon played the idol after getting nervous, which in turn led to Keith playing his and Wes being left out to dry. This guy has zero chance of winning this game based on what we saw tonight. We’re a little worried still about the next few weeks, especially with the Jon winners’ edit going on. With that being said, at least we were very entertained throughout this episode. The best of the season. Grade: A-.
