Thanksgiving TV: Is ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Chicago PD,’ or ‘Top Chef: Boston’ new tonight?

Law & Order: SVU logoIn the world of TV, Thanksgiving can be a very confusing time. Not only are you trying to prepare the turkey, the stuffing, and all of the other fixings, but you also have to figure out what you want to set your DVR to since you’re not going to be around.

Well, we can tell you for now that most of the primetime programming is a mixed bag across multiple networks. We’ve got our small schedule in the sidebar for tonight, but here is something a little bit more extensively.

1. CBS is the network that is going with a lineup of all-new shows, mostly because some of them either started later (“Criminal Minds”), or others (“Survivor”) just have so many episodes a season to go through.

2. Fox is also going to for new episodes of “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Red Band Society,” and it’s a similar reason with the first show that it is with “Survivor.” As for the hospital drama, our guess is that the network wants to end the season early enough that it can look at other programming in that timeslot. A smart move overall.

3. The CW, ABC, and NBC are not really bothering. As a matter of fact, NBC is not even airing “Law & Order: SVU” or “Chicago PD” tonight, opting instead for a “Saturday Night Live” special. ABC has repeats of some of their comedies following the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special.

4. Even Bravo is not airing “Top Chef” tonight. You’re probably going to be hungry enough for turkey tomorrow, anyway.

The funny thing is that for some of these shows, especially the ones on NBC, there will be no new episodes next week either. We’ll have some further updates then, and hopefully even throughout the week.
