‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Allen Leech on working with George Clooney for charity project

Let’s start by getting the hard truth out of the way: George Clooney is still not going to be appearing on “Downton Abbey” this season. It would be fun if he did, but his work with the cast was for an ITV charity special, and did not have anything to do with the upcoming Christmas Special.

With that being said, all of the same crew for the show was in attendance, and if you listen to series star Allen Leech (Tom Branson), then it is pretty clear that the movie star was really great at drawing a crowd. Just take a look at what he said in an E! News interview:

“I’ll put it this way: I’ve never seen so many female crew members arrive and be on set when they weren’t actually supposed to be. It was very interesting,”

This is definitely funny, but indicative about the way that Clooney is the sort of enormous TV star that almost everyone wants to be around.

The irony here is that we may not be seeing Leech very much on the show moving forward, either. We recently asked whether or not we would be seeing the end of Tom on the show, and for good reasons. (Spoiler alert!) He debated often near the end of the season that he may be moving to America with his daughter, which could in turn be a pretty great way for him to start over and think about his future.

We’ll have some more on “Downton Abbey” as we near the Christmas Special, so stay tuned.
