‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ episode 10 preview: Reed Kelly, man in the middle
The story arc of Reed Kelly on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” is an interesting one. Before the merge, he was largely invisible, and not entirely important to any major storylines. Interestingly, we heard during exit interviews that he was a target in the early days of Hunahpu, but the tribe’s winning ways saved him.
Now, he could theoretically control the future direction of this game. There are basically two different alliances that could side with, and we’re at least presently constructing them as such.
Choice 1 – Wes and Keith, Alec, and Natalie. We’re putting Natalie with the boys, since it’s pretty clear that she cannot trust Missy anymore after what happened to Jeremy.
Choice 2 – Jon and Jaclyn, and Missy and Baylor. The big advantage to being here is that Reed could be a key person at final five if one duo wants to vote out the other, but even still, he may have a hard time making the final three here.
Both sides have immunity idols, so the advantage there is mostly negated other than Jon being a little sharper when it comes to what to do with his.
What should Reed do? In the preview below, which is at the end of the most recent “Survivor Live,” he makes it clear that for now, he wants to keep both sides close to him so he can figure out the right move over the course of the next few days. If we were hit, we’d go with the guys and Natalie to take out Jon, and then decide later if he wants to use the remaining three for something. You already know that Jon cannot be trusted, and while Alec, Wes, and Keith may be pretty terrible at the game, they are at least pretty straight-up when it comes to their intentions.
If you were Reed, what would you do? We want to hear your thoughts with a comment!

If I was Reed I would try to work both sides, and build a tight alliance with Natalie to pretend they were both sticking to the couples’ alliance, but really side with the guys’ alliance. Then take Jon out. “Target” Keith as far as the Missy/Jon/Jaclyn/Baylor alliance was concerned, but really take out Jon. If they play it right, Jon won’t expect it, and they can flush him and his idol.
Since Keith is the target (reason for choosing him is he’s the most believable target on that side, due to his idol), if he’s uncomfortable with being #2 in case Jon plays an idol, he can go ahead and play his idol at tribal. May be seen as a waste of an idol, but then again he’s not using it for much anyway, he has a target on his back because of it, and it could save him.
If they can get Keith to go along with it, we could see two idols getting used up/flushed in one episode.
Backup plan in case Jon wins immunity, move target to Jaclyn. This breaks up the power couple, and Jon loses a lot of the power he currently has, even if he gets to keep the idol. Take him out next round since now they’ve got numbers.
This plays into the long term if they can get the couples’ alliance taken out, Natalie and Reed would be top of their alliance, only down side is if he and Natalie get to final three, she’ll be tough to beat.
