‘Arrow’ season 3, episode 7 review: Oliver, Felicity, and the Carrie Cutter – Cupid situation
Even though Cupid is hardly the most high-profile villain from the comic world that we’ve seen come onto “Arrow” over the years, we have to admit that we were more excited to see her than almost anyone other than Malcolm Merlyn and Ra’s al Ghul this season. Why? She’s crazy, and most often, crazy characters are fun characters.
Well, the woman otherwise known as Carrie Cutter was an enormous player in Wednesday night’s new episode, as we learned everything there is to know about her. After being rescued by the Arrow during the mirakuru siege in season 2, she became completely obsessed with him, and started following his every move.
So in the end, Cupid is captured for now, and she is on the Suicide Squad! There was a Harley Quinn reference in here to boot, but the sad news about it is that it looks like the show has already written the Batman villain out by sending her away somewhere.
As fun as this episode is, we do still have to roll our eyes a little bit at Oliver’s relationship philosophy, mostly because we still wrestle with how he can claim he can’t be with anyone as the Arrow, even though he was with Sara Lance. Thankfully, he seemed to come to his senses near the end of the episode, and was ready to actually tell her how he felt … but it may have been too late. Felicity understandably couldn’t wait for him any longer, and she now seems on the fast track to being with Ray.
The episode ended tonight with a pair of fantastic little teases of what’s to come, from Ray’s secret development of the suit that could someday make him The Atom, to the introduction of Captain Boomerang for the first time. He is someone who will be featured prominently in the upcoming crossover event with “The Flash.”
Ultimately, there’s a whole lot to feel good about when it comes this episode. Cupid was great fun, there were a ton of fun little moments, and while we are enjoying the Laurel story more and more, we didn’t miss her too much in here. Grade: A-.
