ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: On Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, and winter finale
It seems as though no matter who you speak to at the moment when it comes to the “Castle” season 7 winter finale, the message appears to be largely the same thing: There are some big changes coming to the show, and to its main character. Even if for the most part “Bad Santa” (airing two weeks from Monday) is a normal episode, there will at least be a few elements here and there that shake things up.
What does the man behind the show have to say about this plot for Nathan Fillion’s character? While vague, David Amann’s tease to TV Guide is still important in establishing that they have no problem ending 2014 with some sort of cliffhanger:
“We’re looking at a bit of a game-changer for Castle at the end of the episode … The events of the episode will cause a shift…in Castle’s life in a fairly significant way.”
While the message that Stana Katic gave to TVLine is not entirely different, she does do a good job of echoing her boss’ quotes in saying that the events here will “change the shape of the show” for some time. You can question just what that means, we certainly are, but it likely ties back into what happened at the start of the season.
While we are very curious about what could be happening here on the show, the words that we are constantly telling ourselves for the time being here are “within reason.” They are not going to do something so dramatic that the show suddenly becomes something beyond a procedural crime drama with some funny moments. However, they could arrange things differently enough to create tension for Castle and Beckett, or put some of the characters in new / surprising positions.

Episodes in December and February are to address Castle’s 2 month absence. Also frequent assurances have been made that the Caskett relationship is in no danger and will, in fact, be strengthened. I have concern for the future of the series but am willing to endure provided that changes in the series do not impact on the Caskett relationship in a negative manner and serve to assure continuation of the series into future seasons.
