‘Top Chef: Boston’ episode 6 preview: A rustic Thanksgiving feast
We have to say that by and large, we are big fans of the episodes of “Top Chef” that really feature some of the contestants having to be out in the elements, trying to make do with just about any and every tool that they have. Sometimes, they don’t have much, and they still have to make great food.
This looks to be the situation very much on Wednesday night’s new episode, at least judging from the new sneak peek that was released over by Bravo. In it, you can see everyone being let off at the Plymouth Plantation in order to complete what may very well be their hardest challenge in this “Boston” season: Create a great Thanksgiving feast, but only using ingredients and resources that some of the pilgrims would have had many centuries ago.
The challenge when it comes to this episode should be obvious, since it is not even remotely easy to do something like cooking over fire pits and trying to handle all of the weather conditions. Still, these chefs should be able to handle this.
The only issue that can come from a challenge like this is that sometimes, the conditions sap the creativity out of people, and they just try to cook ordinary food that tastes good. That is why this episode will separate the contenders (who right now are led by Gregory and Mei) from the pretenders. The exemplary chefs will push the envelope, and the less-talented or tentative ones will largely just try to get this over with.
One thing that did have to be really awkward here is filming this episode in the middle of the summer, which is when production was happening. Hooray for timing!
