‘Gotham’ episode 9 review: Harvey Dent’s return; a Barbara / Montoya surprise
Tonight’s “Gotham” episode promised quite a few things, with the biggest one from the get-go being the debut of Harvey Dent. Heck, his name was in the title!
We have to say that with that in mind, we almost expect even more from him tonight than we ultimately got. Then again, we probably should have seen this coming, given that the episode entitled “Selina Kyle” was very much the same way as this one. We did at least learn a few things about the character (played by Nicholas D’Agosto), with one of the major ones being that he does still have a little bit of that darkness within him.
Selina had arguably one of the better stories of the night, given that she found herself in the bizarre position of being unlikely roommates to Bruce Wayne after Gordon deposited her there for the time being. She did bring out some happiness from Bruce, but also an element of chaos. Alfred has to wonder right now whether or not she is a good addition to the residence, or someone who will ultimately be a nuisance.
Most of this episode was a little too slowly-paced for us, and we’re starting to feel like the writers are not giving Gordon and Bullock enough interesting stuff to do, which is a shame, given that they are technically the stars of the show.
One of the biggest surprises was saved for the very end, where it was revealed that Barbara didn’t just run off alone after deciding that she did not want the drama with Jim; instead, she is now with Montoya yet again. Who saw that coming? Well, maybe some of you. Grade: B-.
