‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 7, episode 2: When will the Phaedra Parks, Apollo Nida drama stop?
Can you believe that there are seven seasons of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”? We struggle over that, just as much as we cannot believe how much the shows tend to all bleed together when it comes to familiar stories.
For example, there is almost always a story about prison on one of these shows, and in this case, it came via Apollo Nida. We know how this story is going to end already, and that may be what makes this so awkward. Her relationship with Apollo Nida has been falling apart quickly, and this story does not end well.
With this story feeling particularly awkward, we have mostly taken to enjoy other parts of the show instead, and that includes some of the awkward comedy that comes from watching new housewife Claudia Jordan learning the ways of the show, or the return of the unintentional comic relief that can be Mama Joyce.
In the end, we still feel like this show is a mixed bag, at least in that we’d so prefer it if it was just Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes most of the time. Nobody else has that real balance of authentic storylines, humor, and drama. Everyone else seems to be either too self-congratulatory or too dramatic for their own good.
Regardless, the show’s ratings are still pretty much some of the best on Bravo, and we anticipate many more seasons of these ladies in the future. We just hope that when they do air, we don’t become mired in so much sadness and rehashing of dramatic seasons in the past. (Case and point? The Kenya Moore story.)
