‘Gotham’ episode 9 preview: The Penguin threatens Liza

When Liza first made the decision to start working for Fish Mooney, she must have thought that it was not going to end up being quite as terrible as it is.

After all, the new sneak-peek below from Monday’s “Harvey Dent” signals that she is really starting to be in it really deep, and Penguin is doing everything that he can to play puppetmaster. He knows that if he even plants a seed of doubt in Falcone’s mind that she is working for Jada Pinkett Smith’s character, it will be enough to have him eventually turn on her. That is really all he wants to do, and we know that he is very convincing at making sure that this happens.

Why would he want her to continue to work for Fish? For us, it is really all about control. For the Penguin, the best thing that he can really hope for is chaos. This allows him an opportunity to sneak in there, make his presence felt, and then rise to power amidst chaos.

Granted, there is so much more going on in this episode than just Oswald Cobblepot, and we don’t think that his origin story is going to be a quick build. There is no need to rush along anything when you’ve got a full 22 episodes, and the show is almost likely to be coming back for another season.

As for Liza, we feel like she’s going to be lucky to make it to the end of the season. People in her position don’t always have a good chance of making it far.
