‘Gotham’ episode 9 preview: Meet the show’s version of Harvey Dent
There are few faces as notorious to the world of Batman as Harvey Dent, so if you love the character, get excited for Monday night’s “Gotham.”
However, don’t be excited about the way in which the show continually delivers almost every reveal on the nose. Did we really need to witness the character, within the confines of his very first scene, flip a coin? Isn’t this one of the most obvious things you could possibly do?
Personally, we would have preferred to see Harvey sell himself as a great character with his charisma, personality, and some of the other main defining factors of how he carries himself through this world. Instead, we get him here mostly through the lines of the same sort of thing that we’ve seen from him in every iteration of the Batman franchise ever.
With all of this being said, there’s still a reason to be excited for the character, and that is the actor behind him in Nicholas D’Agosto. He played the part of Ethan over on “Masters of Sex,” and was rather magnificent in it. He was not always the most likable character out there, but we did feel for him throughout his relationship with Virginia and its aftermath.
Just be prepared to see a good bit of Harvey over the course of the show both this season, and moving even beyond that. In the almost-inevitable event that “Gotham” is renewed, there is the potential for him to be a series regular. We’re down for this, at least so long as they find an organic way to implement him into the world.
