‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 7 review: Can taking a ‘selfie’ get you killed?
Last week on “Criminal Minds” we had a Jennifer heavy story as she battled her mother’s decision to tell Henry more about what happened to Rosaline. In the end we saw Jennifer sit down and tell him in greater detail some great stories about her and Rosaline: Over all a great episode since we rarely get a deeper look into Jennifer’s personal life, but if you are expecting more of that tonight you will likely be disappointed.
The story of the week is something we have seen quite a bit lately: Tara is a social media mogul and has obsessive fans that lurk her page to see the new selfies she takes of herself. The unsub called “The Mirror Man” is of course not content with only Tara’s death and is targeting other social media moguls as well garnering a lot of attention for himself. Turns out that the Mirror Man is a young guy named William that has taken the creepy pasta story that a friend Connor created for the internet (if you don’t know what creepy pasta is definitely Google it – you’ll be happy you did) and made it real.
When it comes to any story on our main cast members: Derek is wondering why Savannah hasn’t packed for vacation yet and she says that she’ll believe it when she sees it because she has been disappointed too many times in the past. Derek assures her that this vacation will happen, but the case takes over and gets in the way once again. Garcia suggests that he stops trying to plan something so grand when he has an unpredictable schedule and that he plan something smaller that still has meaning. With the vacation on hold once again, Derek takes her on a mini trip to the house he has been restoring and tells her that it’s their permanent vacation – their own fortress of solitude (love the Superman reference). He asks her to move in with him and she says yes.
This subject matter has been done to death and for the most part we are over the social media killer story. If a show is going to tackle this story line, it needs to have something different and new to bring to the table and Criminal Minds defiantly did that tonight. Episode grade: B-
