‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 11 reaction: Kasha Kropinski, Anson Mount on ‘Bleeding Kansas’ surprises
Last night, “Hell on Wheels” aired one of of its most important, character-driven installments of the entire season so far in “Bleeding Kansas.” Blood was a key theme throughout, mostly as we tried to figure out whether or not Cullen Bohannon can stop Sydney Snow from bleeding out. If he does, he may be able to keep Ruth from a similar fate.
Unfortunately, we saw at the end of the episode the end of Syd’s life, which means that Ruth will have to go through a difficult and potentially deadly legal process.
In the video below, you can see much of the cast and crew describe everything that went into making this big episode. Specifically, Kasha Kropinski discusses how her character’s background better informs us in this episode about why she tried to murder Ezra’s killer in broad daylight, and how her past led to her to think that there is a “righteous” quality that come from violence.
Meanwhile, Anson Mount (Cullen) and Jake Weber (Campbell) each detail some of their own characters’ roles in this saga. For Cullen, he is trying to understand the attitude Ruth has over the whole ordeal, and why she is so accepting of whatever fate is handed down to her, even if most of Cheyenne would rally behind her choice to kill Sydney given his history of terrible things and what he did at the church.
For Campbell, it is a political quagmire. He realizes that there would be enormous problems that could come from trying to hang Ruth, but at the same time, he has been steadfast in his beliefs that the same laws apply to all. If he were to start handing out exceptions to the rule now, he could face trouble.
