‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 9 review: Death arrives as Jax, Bobby, Juice await their fate

Premiere -We knew from the moment that tonight’s “Sons of Anarchy” episode was titled “What a Piece of Work Is Man” that we were potentially going to see one of the saddest episodes that we’ve seen on the show to date. From that standpoint, it did not disappoint.

The closing minutes of this episode are going to be among the most chilling of the entire series most likely, as Gemma specifically had to deal emotionally with the death of Bobby. It was something that would have never happened had she not murdered Tara, and he is one of many in a trail of bodies.

Yet, this death will hurt the club the most. Bobby was a key part of SAMCRO, and one of the few who truly did not deserve anything so terrible. In many ways, his status as a good soldier is what ultimately caused him to be done in by August Marks and Moses Cartwright. There was no way they were going to let him live; we saw this coming a mile away, and yet the death was so expected, we were shocked it actually happened.

For Gemma, this was not even the sole terrible event rocking her world right now. She also has to live with the investigation heating up into Tara’s killer, now that Juice has been found a liar and his plan to murder Henry Lin is seemingly up in smoke. Also, Jarry and Unser are set with their evidence to potentially bury her, and create the one situation that almost everyone has been hoping to see since the beginning of the season.

One thing that we are sure of is that there is no happy ending for Gemma, just as there is almost surely no happy ending for Jax. Maybe someone gets out of this insanity a winner, but it is not either one of them.

Let us be clear: This was an excellent “Sons of Anarchy” episode. It’s also one that will be haunting us as we go to sleep. Grade: A.
