People’s Choice Awards 2014: Mariska Hargitay, Kristin Kreuk, Misha Collins, even more nominees

Benson -The People’s Choice Awards is an extremely popular show, and one that also has plenty of candidates to boot. So when the official announcement was made today of the nominees, we had quite a few names to sift through.

In the end, though, there were a number of names we were extremely happy to see on here. It was great, for example, to see “Beauty and the Beast” get some love despite a small audience, and for all of the “Supernatural” guys to have a moment in the sun even over some vampires on The CW. Also, Mariska Hargitay has herself in a very good position to get a new trophy early next year when this show airs on CBS, hosted by Anna Faris to go along with Allison Janney.

“The Vampire Diaries” and “Grey’s Anatomy” are the two shows that managed to get overall the most nominations. You can take a look at the full list below. We’ve got some quick analysis to go along with each list. You can vote for the awards over here.

Favorite TV Show
The Big Bang Theory
Game Of Thrones
NCIS
Once Upon a Time
The Walking Dead

The show airs on CBS, but we feel like “Walking Dead” or “Once Upon a Time” could have it.

Favorite Network TV Comedy
2 Broke Girls
The Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Mom
New Girl

This will be “Big Bang Theory.” No question.

Favorite Comedic TV Actor
Ashton Kutcher
Chris Colfer
Jesse Tyler Ferguson
Jim Parsons
Ty Burrell

This could be closer, but we’re going to say that the “Glee” fans get Colfer one more trophy before the show ends.

Favorite Comedic TV Actress
Amy Poehler
Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting
Melissa McCarthy
Sofia Vergara
Zooey Deschanel

With “Modern Family” slowing down, this is Kaley’s award to lose.

Favorite Network TV Drama
Chicago Fire
Downton Abbey
Grey’s Anatomy
Revenge
Scandal

Go with “Scandal.” It has the most devoted following of all.

Favorite Dramatic TV Actor
Dax Shepard
Jesse Williams
Justin Chambers
Patrick Dempsey
Taylor Kinney

This could be an interesting category. If Lady Gaga gets her fans involved, we may be inclined to side with Kinney.

Favorite Dramatic TV Actress
Alyssa Milano
Ellen Pompeo
Emily VanCamp
Hayden Panettiere
Kerry Washington

It’s between Ellen and Kerry here.

Favorite Cable TV Comedy
Baby Daddy
Cougar Town
Faking It
Melissa & Joey
Young & Hungry

This is a tricky one to call. “Cougar Town” is the safe choice, but “Faking It” has a devoted following.

Favorite Cable TV Drama
Bates Motel
Pretty Little Liars
Rizzoli & Isles
Sons of Anarchy
True Detective

Sadly, “Sons of Anarchy” will be defeated in its final season by the #PLLArmy.

Favorite Cable TV Actor
Charlie Hunnam
Eric Dane
Matt Bomer
Sean Bean
William H. Macy

This will be close between Hunnam and Bomer, especially since it is a last hurrah for each for the time being.

Favorite Cable TV Actress
Angie Harmon
Ashley Benson
Courteney Cox
Kristen Bell
Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale. Ashley being there complicates things, but we don’t see anyone else taking it.

Favorite TV Crime Drama
Bones
Castle
Criminal Minds
The Mentalist
NCIS

Probably “NCIS.” There’s just so many more viewers.

Favorite Crime Drama TV Actor
David Boreanaz
Kevin Bacon
Nathan Fillion
Shemar Moore
Simon Baker

Fillion probably will win it. After all, he’s taking home many trophies here before.

Favorite Crime Drama TV Actress
Emily Deschanel
Lucy Liu
Mariska Hargitay
Robin Tunney
Stana Katic

This may be the most competitive category of all. Mariska and Stana are the frontrunners, and both have passionate followings. Robin could be darkhorse.

Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show
Beauty and the Beast
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Once Upon a Time
Supernatural
The Vampire Diaries

“Beauty and the Beast” is a sleeper, but the safe bet here still is “Vampire Diaries.”

Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show
American Horror Story
Doctor Who
Game of Thrones
Outlander
The Walking Dead

We’re going with “Walking Dead,” but any show here could win it.

Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor
Ian Somerhalder
Jared Padalecki
Jensen Ackles
Misha Collins
Paul Wesley

Too close to call, but the fact that only two shows are nominated here show who is voting.

Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress
Ginnifer Goodwin
Jennifer Morrison
Jessica Lange
Kristin Kreuk
Nina Dobrev

Nina probably has this one, simply because she’s won in the past after starting as a write-in candidate.

Favorite Competition TV Show
America’s Got Talent
Dancing with the Stars
Hell’s Kitchen
MasterChef
The Voice

Does it really matter with these nominees?

Favorite Daytime TV Host(s)
Ellen DeGeneres
Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan
Queen Latifah
Rachael Ray
Steve Harvey

Just go ahead and give it to Ellen.

Favorite Late Night Talk Show Host
Conan O’Brien
Craig Ferguson
David Letterman
Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Kimmel

Letterman deserves it for his final year.

Favorite Dramedy
Awkward.
Orange Is the New Black
Shameless
Suits
White Collar

“Orange Is the New Black” wins, and someone should tell the Emmys to make this category.

Favorite TV Icon
Betty White
Katey Sagal
Mark Harmon
Tim Allen
Tom Selleck

Betty White wins anything with “icon” on it.

Favorite TV Duo
David Boreanaz & Emily Deschanel (Bones)
Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas (Once Upon a Time)
Jared Padalecki & Jensen Ackles (Supernatural)
Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic (Castle)
Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries)

Another super-hard one to call. Nina and Ian are the frontrunners, but the “Supernatural” boys could top them.

Favorite TV Character We Miss Most
Dr. Cristina Yang played by Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy)
Dr. Lance Sweets played by John Francis Daley (Bones)
Hershel Greene played by Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead)
Leslie Shay played by Lauren German (Chicago Fire)
Neal Cassidy played by Michael Raymond-James (Once Upon a Time)

Sandra Oh has this one, hands-down.

Favorite Actor In A New TV Series
Ben McKenzie
David Tennant
Dylan McDermott
Laurence Fishburne
Scott Bakula

Let’s give it to Ben, mostly because “Gotham” is the best of the group.

Favorite Actress In A New TV Series
Debra Messing
Jada Pinkett Smith
Octavia Spencer
Téa Leoni
Viola Davis

Viola wins this in a runaway.

Favorite Sketch Comedy TV Show
Drunk History
Inside Amy Schumer
Key & Peele
Kroll Show
Saturday Night Live

Do many voters know what the first four shows here even are? We wonder.

Favorite Animated TV Show
American Dad
Bob’s Burgers
Family Guy
The Simpsons
South Park

Once again, does it matter?

Favorite New TV Comedy
A to Z
Bad Judge
black-ish
Cristela
Jane the Virgin
Marry Me
The McCarthys
Mulaney
Selfie

“black-ish” is the best of the group, but this list is still funny given that “A to Z” and “Bad Judge” are already canceled, while “Mulaney” is about to be.

Favorite New TV Drama
Constantine
The Flash
Forever
Gotham
Gracepoint
How to Get Away with Murder
Madam Secretary
The Mysteries of Laura
NCIS: New Orleans
Red Band Society
Scorpion
Stalker

“The Flash” or “How to Get Away with Murder.” Nobody else probably has a shot.

Final take – In the end, this is one of the biggest crops out there, and it could make for an interesting show. With that being said, there are still snubs.

In case you are wondering why there are so many different nominees present here in the first place, think of this as CBS hedging their bets for people who will attend the show. Even if many skip out or have work commitments, they may still snag enough winners to make a good show.
